One of the first places I went to (aside from K-Mart) when I arrived in Newcastle almost 7 years ago was Blackbutt Reserve. We often take new DTS students there for a “Welcome BBQ” on the first day. It’s such a cool place that is only a 10-minute drive away, and they’ve really spruced the place up over the last few years. There is a great playground, several covered picnic areas, open grass areas for picnics and tons of animals. Peacocks and turkeys roam around, scoping out all the visitors, and if you follow the different paths, you can see many more animals, such as kangaroos, emus, koalas, wombats, wallabies and a million different birds.
Yesterday morning a bunch of my mum friends and their cute kids all gathered here, and it was such a fun morning. The kids played around the playground for the first bit, ate a bunch of snacks and saw all the animals. We even somehow managed to get a group photo of all the kids (7 kids under the age of 3…yes we are champions!). Here’s several photos from the morning that I took (and some that my beautiful friend Tina took as well!).
